Establishing the Cancer Research Fund

Cancer is rapidly emerging as a major public health problem in Africa. The erroneous myth that cancerous diseases are rare in Africa has been nullified by numerous publications on cancers in Africans. From available information, it is now recognized that cancer is a common disease which affects many Africans and is taking a toll on individuals, communities, and resources of African countries. The treatment of cancer is often very costly and the average person suffering from the disease often does not have the resources to seek adequate and effective treatment.

To date sub-Saharan Africa does not have access to the top notch cancer research facilities that are available in the West. The goal of Emofra Africa Cancer Research Fund is to develop a top-notch cancer research facility in Ghana to research all aspects of cancer especially blood cancers, which affect Africans/African-Americans in larger numbers. The Cancer Research Fund will facilitate the exchange of ideas between cancer specialists and medical professionals in Africa. The Research Fund will also assist in providing scholarships to medical professionals in Africa to attain additional training on cutting edge cancer treatments.
